We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, 100% volunteer organization. And we greatly appreciate your help!

In volunteering with us you will be asked to do a variety of things, including but not limited to: grooming, and exercising the horses, cleaning paddocks, moving hay, assisting Vets, trainers and other volunteers.
You will learn about the cost and daily care associated with horse keeping. You will learn about diseases and lameness problems, how to handle behavioral problems and retrain abused or distrusting horses. You will also learn about business practices as a good rescue is just like a business: it must run with an eye on the bottom line, with solid policies and good business practices.

Volunteers should be up front with HAPI about your commitment level.
If you are only available for an hour a week, please let us know, we will find a job that fits your availability.
If your available for longer periods or willing to take on more responsibility, please let us know that, too.

Volunteering with a horse rescue is a wonderful way to learn more about horses and give back to horses who have had a rough life. Volunteers also often learn new skills and may make lifelong friends through
their volunteer experience.

When the time is right, a trial ride will be offered to our volunteers. This will be a ride suitable for the volunteers’ ability and will require a signed release form. We look forward to that day!

We want to make this an engaging experience, so please ask questions. We have learned a lot about the care of horses and want to share that knowledge. It is in all of our best interest to teach and to learn about horses – their well-being is our top priority.

Because of the nature of the horses in our program and the ever-changing herd, we ask that you abide by our request – these are for your safety and the safety and well-being of the horses.

Do not enter stalls/pastures/paddocks without permission from staff
Never strike or show aggressive behavior towards any horse at any time.
Never try to ride a horse without the permission of a HAPI Manager.
Never walk behind a horse without the horse knowing you are there.
Always make an appointment to visit or volunteer on the HAPI Trails property. 307-413-1815.
No smoking, alcohol, drugs, or weapons on the premises
No throwing things in or around the barn/arena
Do not feed the horses unless given permission by staff
Walk at all times
Wear proper clothing. Wear a helmet when riding.
Friends & family are welcome, with prior permission from HAPI Trails.
They will be asked to sign a volunteer liability waiver if they will be entering pastures or working with the horses.

Failure to adhere to all of the above rules can result in volunteer’s participation in the program to be cancelled immediately.

VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT:

I, the undersigned, wish to volunteer with HAPI Trails, Horse Adoption Program, Inc. I understand that I will be in close proximity to one or more horses under circumstances which may expose me to some risk of injury, because of the nature of horses, the facility, and the activities in which I will be engaged. I acknowledge that the use, handling, and riding of a horse, as well as simply being in close proximity to a horse, involves a risk of physical injury. I expressly assume all inherent risks involved in the use, handling and riding of a horse, whether those risks are known or unknown. Inherent risks are those dangers or conditions that are characteristic of, intrinsic to, or are an integral part of the use, handling and riding of horses.
In consideration of HAPI Trails allowing my participation with their program, I, on behalf of myself, and my heirs, administrators, personal representatives, assigns and children and spouse, do hereby agree to hold harmless, release and discharge HAPI Trails, which includes its officers, directors, members, agents, representatives, affiliates and insurers, of and from all claims, demands, causes of action and legal liability whether known or unknown, anticipated or unanticipated. I shall not bring any claims, demands, legal actions or causes of action against HAPI Trails for any damage or loss due to bodily injury, death or property damage arising out of my participation in this event.
